In Praise of Slow Medicine

Dr. Dennis McCullough, died suddenly last week. Dr. McCullough’s New York Times obituary described him as a “Pioneering Doctor Who Counseled the Virtues of a ‘Good Death’”. Inspired by a personal medical ordeal and his mother’s difficult death, Dr. McCullough was a pioneer of the “slow medicine” movement, which is closely aligned with hospice and palliative care. I have not read Dr. McCullough’s, My Mother, Your Mother: Embracing ‘Slow Medicine’, the Compassionate Approach to Caring for Your Aging Loved Ones, but have added it to my reading list. You can read Dr. McCullough’s NYT obituary here: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/06/09/us/dennis-mccullough-pioneer-of-slow-medicine-in-end-of-life-care-dies-at-72.html?_r=0
